Celebration
This King penguin colony on St. Andrews Bay on South Georgia Island had penguins as far as one could see.
King penguins are the second largest penguin species; second only to the Emperor penguin. They live in large colonies such as this one on South Georgia Island near Antarctica. Like emperor penguins, king penguins do not build nests. Instead, they stand upright and incubate the egg on the tops of their feet. Unlike emperor penguins, king penguins take turns incubating the egg. Both Mother and Father share in the incubation and care for their young taking turns keeping them warm on their feet while the other hunts for food.
Their lifespan is 15-20 years.
