As I stepped inside my first snow cave in Mt. Rainier I was like a kid marveling at the sculpted snow with amazing colors and shapes. The snow was melting so fast on this hot, July morning that I came out drenched as if I was in the rain. A few weeks later I returned to show friends the spectacle and it had all melted! One has to be very careful exploring these sites though, because caves at this time of year (or really any time) can collapse and trap people inside.
